Israel seizes medieval castle as it expands major offensive in southern Lebanon
Lot of historic activity around this castle, Ai states that it was built by the Crusaders, only when I asked what was there before the Crusaders did it give me the info about it previously being an Ancient Roman fort. Whatever the case, there is nothing random or strategic about them seizing this castle...this is all symbolic.
UNESCO and Lebanese archaeological surveys demonstrate that the castle’s deep stratigraphy contains architectural elements spanning back to the Roman and Byzantine periods. The Romans were the first to build initial stone fortifications on this specific cliff to monitor the highly critical transit passage leading toward the Syrian hinterland.
