The Blue Sapphire
Blue sapphires are precious gemstones made of corundum (aluminum oxide) that rank 9 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale. Saturation and tone dictate value; medium to royal blue tones are most desired. Top mining locations include Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Madagascar, Myanmar (Burma), and India (Kashmir).
Before we look more deeply into the mythos surrounding this royal blue gemstone let's first look into the etymology and theological definitions associated with the Blue Sapphire.
Unfortunately the ancient Esoteric Knowledge regarding the Blue Sapphire has not survived as intact as the knowledge and mythos surrounding the Ruby, and so we have our work cut out for us in finding the connections of this dazzling gemstone to the Divine Female, but as ever, I'm up for the challenge.
Of course this is all by design. The Vatican was terrified of the Female intellect and it's ability to understand archetypal symbolism so they had to remove her and reduce her importance. They literally removed the Divine Female's intellect from Biblical Scripture completely, claiming it was forbidden for any female to teach Scripture.
This goes directly against the Gnostic Gospels, where Jesus claimed that Mary Magdalene was his favorite student. "Mary Magdalene was the companion of the Lord. He loved her more than all the disciples..." - Gospel of Philip. Not to mention that Mary Magdalene wrote one of the Gnostic Gospels too.
The Vatican has either reduced the Divine Female to nothing more than a womb, or in the case of Mary Magdalene, they went as far to infer she was the whore who washed the feet of Jesus. However, I am sure the dedicated student can still piece something together from the fragments they didn't destroy, or lock up under St Peter. Also interesting to note, Lady Diana Spencer and later Princess Catherine famously wore an 18-carat oval sapphire engagement ring.
So let's begin with some etymology and see what we can find.
The Greek name for "sappheiros" means "scribed/precious stone". In Biblical Hebrew, the root of the word sappir is (סָפַר), which means "to record," "to recount," or "to write" (it is the exact same root used for modern Hebrew words like sefer, meaning book, and sofer, meaning scribe).
Ancient Jewish midrash states that the Tablets of the Law (the Ten Commandments) given to Moses were not made of common rock, but were literally carved from a block of heavenly blue sapphire—making them the ultimate "scribed stones." In the Zohar, Binah is frequently described as a palace of sapphire. Kabbalistic theology relates, that the heavenly Sefirot of Binah represents the lower boundary of the Divine Mother.
"The Supernal Mother, Binah, who is the seventh cosmic palace, brought forth six internal palaces... The supernal palace includes the upper three Sefirot, and its foundation rests upon the Palace of the Sapphire Stone." - The Zohar
The well studied student is right to see the association of the sefirot Binah connected to this dazzling azure gem because Binah denotes the Divine Female. Something else that is quiet unusual, is that the sefirot Binah is represented by the colour black however the colour black and blue share remarkable similar qualities.
This is called, the "Midnight Blue" illusion. In art and design, deep midnight blue is often used as an alternative to black. Under certain lighting, midnight blue looks darker and richer than true black because it absorbs light differently, giving it a luxurious, velvety quality.
Now let's see what fragments of knowledge about the Sapphire are still to be found in the Christian mythos. We see that there is still some knowledge that remains intact regarding the Sapphire being connected to the Virgin Mary.
The well studied student knows that the colour blue is directly connected to the Divine Female and we see this also with Christian theology surrounding the Virgin Mary. In medieval theological art pieces, Mary is always depicted wearing a blue cloak or mantle. This specific shade became known as Marian Blue.
One of the most famous historical intersections between the Virgin Mary and the gemstone is the Amulet of Charlemagne. This sacred, golden pendant featured two large Blue Sapphires and sandwiched securely between the two gems was a holy relic: a strand of hair said to belong to the Virgin Mary.
While the sapphire was not endemic to the Egyptian region, the throne of Isis is frequently painted deep lapis lazuli blue. The Songs of Isis and Nephthys —describe the goddess as possessing "hair of lapis lazuli". So we can see a direct connection to the colour blue and Isis, the symbol denoting the First Born Divine Female.
Now let's look at what remains of the Blue Sapphire in our Ancient Greek Legends.
It was said The Oracle of Delphi, a priestess called Pythia, instructed those who came to her for answers to wear a piece of "sappheiros" around their necks. Sappheiros translates to blue gemstone, many modern academics claim it was Lapis Luzuli and not Sapphire, I think the well studied student is capable of coming to their own conclusions and understand in the language of symbolism the two can be interchangeable.
So unfortunately we have little information that has survived regarding the "sappheiros", however it's connection to the powerful Divine Priestess Pythia and her ability to understand future events and patterns is connected to this dazzling gemstone.
The Ancient Hindu were impressive story tellers, perhaps their mythos may provide us with some clues regarding this beautiful gemstone.
And it seems they have not disappointed, in Hindu texts and Vedic astrology, the Shani Dev (Saturn) is connected to the Goddess Neela Devi, who is the literal manifestation of the sapphire. Let us take a deeper look into how the goddess Neela Devi is connected to this beautiful gemstone.
The Hindu Legend begins, The Legend of King Vikramaditya and Shani Dev
King Vikramaditya was a legendary emperor of ancient India, celebrated for his absolute justice, courage, and immense wisdom. One day, Lord Shani visited Vikramaditya’s court. Shani Dev warned the proud king that he was about to enter a period called Sade Sati, where Shani judges an individual's accumulated past life karma and enforces strict lessons through hardship.
Vikramaditya, confident in his own righteousness and power, asked if even a great, just king like himself could be broken by a planet. However, Shani Dev replied with a stern smile: "No one escapes karma, King. Not even the gods."
Just as Shani Dev had warned, as soon as the transit began, the king's life spiralled out of control. He was wrongfully accused of stealing a wealthy merchant's jewels. As punishment, his hands and feet were severed, and he was cast out of his kingdom. The once-mighty emperor was forced to work as a lowly helper operating an oil press in a distant village, completely stripped of his identity and glory.
For years, Vikramaditya endured his suffering with humility, patience, and a deep acceptance of his fate, learning the true meaning of powerlessness. When Shani Dev saw that the king had completely paid his karmic debt and learned his lesson, he restored his limbs, gave him back his kingdom, and then blessed him with a dazzling blue sapphire, the goddess Neelam.
The well studied student will identify the cycle of the Divine Race being once again relayed beneath this Hindu mythology. There is a close symbolic connection between the Divine Female and Saturn, the Lord of Time.

Saturn symbolically rescues the Divine Female from the Underworld, he is also known in some Ancient Greek/Roman myths as the "Father of the gods". Again this relates to the cycle of Divine Man, and the well studied student also understands that Cronus is responsible for clipping their wings, and sending them into the Underworld too.
Now let us look at the final Hindu myth regarding the stunning Royal Blue Sapphire.
It begins, the great King Dushyanta fell deeply in love with a forest maiden named Shakuntala. Before returning to his capital, he gave her his royal Blue Sapphire signet ring as a token of his vow to marry her.
However, due to a sage's curse, Shakuntala lost the ring while bathing in a river; it slipped from her finger and was swallowed by a fish. Without the sapphire ring as proof, a collective amnesia washed over King Dushyanta, and he completely forgot who Shakuntala was when she came to court.
Months later, a fisherman caught the fish and discovered the glittering blue sapphire ring inside its stomach. The moment the fisherman brought the sapphire back to the palace and the King looked upon the stone, the curse broke instantly. All his the memories of his beloved flooded back, and he was happily reunited with his beautiful Sapphire Queen.
The well studied student will easily recognize the same repeating story of the cycle of Divine Man, as he traverses the Higher and Lower Ages with his Divine Female Twin.
Though we started with very sparse theological fragments, the Hindu scribes have not disappointed us and we can clearly see the symbolic connection the Blue Sapphire has to the Divine Female.
