The Niphilim were fallen angels and this is symbolising divine man in the lower ages of the Great Year.
What can it be that has brought the souls to forget the father, God, and, though members of the Divine and entirely of that world, to ignore at once themselves and it?
The evil that has overtaken them has its source in self-will, in the entry into the sphere of process, and in the primal differentiation with the desire for self ownership. They conceived a pleasure in this freedom and largely indulged their own motion; thus they were hurried down the wrong path, and in the end, drifting further and further, they came to lose even the thought of their origin in the Divine. A child wrenched young from home and brought up during many years at a distance will fail knowledge of its father and of itself: the souls, in the same way, no longer discern either the divinity or their own nature; ignorance of their rank brings self-depreciation; they misplace their respect, honouring everything more than themselves; all their awe and admiration is for the alien, and clinging to this, they have broken apart, as far as a soul may, and they make light of what they have deserted; their regard for the mundane and their disregard of themselves bring about their utter ignoring of the divine. - The Six Enneads of Plotinus, The Fifth Ennead - First Tractate: The Three Initial Hypostasis
The two Bible verses where the Niphilim are mentioned:
So they brought to the children of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. 33And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” - Numbers 13: 32 - 33
1When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide ina man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4The Nephilimb were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.5The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6: 1 – 5
Etymology of Niphilim: Aquila of Sinope (130AD) who translated the Hebrew Bible into Greek translated Niphilim to mean "the fallen ones".
In Aramaic culture, the term niyphelah refers to the Constellation of Orion and nephilim to the offspring of Orion in mythology.
In Islam the Jinn symbolizes the divine race and the account of them is in the Quran is very similar to the Niphilim in the Bible. The Quran explains that the jinn, like men, are a creation possessed of power and authority, and they, just like them, can choose between obedience and disobedience, faith and disbelief.
Quran Verses:
And that persons from among men used to seek refuge with persons from among jinn, so they increased them in wrongdoing:[72.6]
[6.128] And on the day when He shall gather them all together: O assembly of jinn! you took away a great part of mankind. And their friends from among the men shall say: Our Lord! some of us profited by others and we have reached our appointed term which Thou didst appoint for us. He shall say: The fire is your abode, to abide in it, except as Allah is pleased; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.
[6.130] O assembly of jinn and men! did there not come to you apostles from among you, relating to you My communications and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours? They shall say: We bear witness against ourselves; and this world's life deceived them, and they shall bear witness against their own souls that they were unbelievers.
33. O assembly of jinn and men! If you have power to pass beyond1 the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass beyond [them]. But you shall never be able to pass them, except with extraordinary power.
34. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both [jinn and men] deny?Surah al-Rahman, Verses 33 - 55
Then there is the story in the Quran of angels Harut and Marut , they asked Allah's permission to come down to earth but succumbed to temptation, and were hung up by their feet in Babylon with their hair and their wings cut off.
When divine man is virtous and lives in alignment with divine law he is an angel
When divine man live in vice and transgresses divine law he is a demon
Lucifer the Morning Star
The Bible literally tells us that Jesus is the Morning Star and Lucifer in the lower Ages ie: Iron Age
‘You too have become as weak as we!
You have become like us!’
Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
the sound of your harps;
maggots are laid as a bed beneath you,
and worms are your covers.
“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low!
You said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
above the stars of God
I will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
in the far reaches of the north;c
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’ - Isaiah 14: 10 – 14
This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. - Acts 4:11
On what were its foundations set, or who laid its cornerstone, while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:6-8
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” - Revelation 22:16
And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.
On what were its foundations set, or who laid its cornerstone, while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
In Hebrew Helel is the translation of Lucifer, Helel means “a shining one”
Revelations 2
“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: ‘The words of the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like burnished bronze.Only hold fast what you have until I come. The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, and he will rulec them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. And I will give him the morning star.
Greek Mythos:
Dionysys becomes Bacchus
Jesus said, "I took my stand in the midst of the world, and in flesh I appeared to them. I found them all drunk, and I did not find any of them thirsty. My soul ached for the children of humanity, because they are blind in their hearts and do not see, for they came into the world empty, and they also seek to depart from the world empty. But meanwhile they are drunk. When they shake off their wine, then they will change their ways." - Gospel of Thomas
In the Ancient Greek artworks Dionysus is often depicted with a leopard, the Greeks called the Leopard a Pard and a 12th Century Bestairy called the Abadeen Bestary describes the Pard as follows: the pard ia a beautiful and gentle creature whose only enemy is the dragon. It's said to sleep for three days after filling its stomach and arise, carrying with it a sweet scent from its mouth which attracts all animals except the dragon. Its roar is said to terrify the dragon into fleeing to its den. In this bestiary, the creature is said to symbolize Jesus Christ who opposes the devil.
After this I looked, and behold, another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back. And the beast had four heads, and dominion was given to it. - Book of Daniel
From the Book of Daniel (speaks of Daniel being the most holy of the gods)
But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream: “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation. In these visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this come to pass:
There was a tree in the midst of the land,
and its height was great.
The tree grew large and strong;
its top reached the sky,
and it was visible
to the ends of the earth.
Its leaves were beautiful,
its fruit was abundant,
and upon it was food for all.
Under it the beasts of the field found shelter,
in its branches the birds of the air nested,
and from it every creature was fed.
As I lay on my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher,b a holy one, coming down from heaven. He called out in a loud voice:
‘Cut down the tree and chop off its branches;
strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit.
Let the beasts flee from under it,
and the birds from its branches.
But leave the stump with its roots in the ground,
and a band of iron and bronze around it,
in the tender grass of the field.
MORE SYMBOLISM REGARDING THE FALL OF DIVINE MAN CAN BE FOUND IN:
The mythology of Icarus flying to close to the sun, this is basically a analogy for the divine man becoming to full of hubris and arrogance and then his wings being clipped and him returning to the material plane and living as a mortal.
We can also see the symbolism in Father Time ie: Saturn clipping cupid's wings, again this is in regards to the divine man becoming as a mortal in the lower ages.
Yima in the Persian mythology was said to be immortal and shine like the sun, he was said to hold the divine fortune in the highest degree. He starts out as a wonderful King and creates the perfect Utopia for his people, nobody gets sick or goes hungry, then over time there are too many people and he cannot expand the earth any further to fit them in, they end up displaying the worse of human nature and are chastized by God who cleanses the earth leaving only the most virtuous to begin a new cycle.
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. - Hebrews 13:2
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. - 1 Corinthians 1: 26-29
"The final age was of iron; the floodgates opened and all the forces of evil invaded a breed of inferior mettle. Loyalty, truth and conscience went into exile, their throne usurped by guile and deception,
treacherous plots, brute force and a criminal lust for possession.
Sailors spread their sails to the winds they had tempted so rarely
before, and the keels of pine that had formerly stood stock still
on the mountain slopes presumptuously bobbed in the alien ocean.
The land which had been as common to all as the air or sunlight
was now marked out with the boundary lines of the wary surveyor.
The affluent earth was not only pressed for the crops and food
that it owed; men also found their way to its very bowels,
and the wealth which the god had hidden away in the home of the ghosts
by the Styx was mined and dug out, as a further incitement to wickedness.
Now dangerous iron, and gold - more dangerous than iron -
had emerged. Grim War appeared, who uses both in his battles,
and brandished his clashing weapons in hands bespattered with slaughter.
Men throve on their thefts: no guest was safe from his host, no father
secure with his daughter's husband; love between brothers was found
but seldom. Men and their wives would long for each other's demise;
wicked stepmothers brewed their potions of deadly wolfsbane;
sons would cast their fathers' horoscopes prematurely.
All duty to gods and to men lay vanquished; and Justice the Maiden
was last of the heavenly throng to abandon the blood-drenched earth." - Ovid, Metamorphosis
